APIS BLOOM® - Honeybee Pollination Activity Enhancer

Stop Wasted Bee Movement in Your Crop: Get Your Pollination Investment on Target

Every grower knows that renting hives is a massive investment, but you cannot always control where those bees go after they leave the box. APIS BLOOM® is a high-tech pollination enhancer that uses nature’s own "GPS" to direct honeybees (Apis mellifera) exactly where you need them.

The formulation is built on our proprietary SPLAT® Technology (Specialized Pheromone & Lure Application Technology). It is a specialized, pink, wax-based emulsion containing terpenoids—natural volatile compounds that mimic the scent markers scout bees use to tell the hive where the best nectar is. In nature, bees go through a three-stage process: Send, Search, and Attract. APIS BLOOM allows your bees to bypass the “send” and "search" phases entirely, leading them straight to the "attract" stage.

Beyond just spreading out the workers, APIS BLOOM significantly ramps up the total volume of bee activity on your flowers. Extensive research trials across various crops have tracked a massive surge in the number of bees visiting flowers, showing an average of a 100% increase in foraging activity over control groups. Effectively, this means the technology roughly doubles the amount of bee visits each flower receives, with some trials recording activity increases over 250%. By making your crop the most "attractive" food source in the area, you ensure that every flower gets the repeated visits necessary for a high-quality set, maximizing the return on your hive expenses.

By creating a uniform "cloud" of these biological cues across your field, you eliminate the widespread problem of uneven bee distribution, where bees cluster near the hives or wander to neighboring properties. This is especially critical during inclement weather windows, such as cloudy, overcast, or rainy conditions, when foraging time is limited, APIS BLOOM ensures every minute the bees are in the air is spent on your crop.

The product is ready-to-use and designed for the realities of the field. Once applied, the water in the paste evaporates, leaving a durable, weather-resistant dollop that adheres to trunks or trellises. It provides a controlled release of attractants for at least four weeks, meaning one application usually covers your entire bloom window.

Benefits

APIS BLOOM increases the foraging time of the bees in the crop and also makes the distribution of the insects more uniform throughout the crop and more homogeneous in the area applied. The product also increases the visitation and permanence of the hive in crops that are not preferred by bees. Because of this, good pollination tends to generate better quality fruit and increased production.

Direct Your Bees, Don't Just Rent Them

APIS BLOOM is the only pollination tool that combines advanced biocommunication with a rain-fast, drone-ready formulation to ensure total crop coverage.

  • Boosted Yield and Quality: Trials show an average 8% yield increase in almonds and up to 16.5% in blueberries, with some harvests showing a 28% increase in berry size.
  • Mechanical Efficiency: Applied via specialized drone service at a rate of ~20 acres per hour, requiring zero extra labor from your crew

Proven Performance Backed by University Research and Global Commercial Trials

The data show that managing bee behavior leads to a measurable ROI. In Michigan State University trials, APIS BLOOM treatment groups saw a 15% increase in total yield and produced high-quality, fresh berries earlier in the season. In California, several almond plots recorded yields 17% to 21% higher than standard practices. Across over 80% of almond trials and grower reports, APIS BLOOM has consistently demonstrated a numerical improvement in harvest weight over control groups.

APIS BLOOM FAQ

How does APIS BLOOM work?

APIS BLOOM releases a honey bee attractant at a controlled rate in your fields. This tells passing honey bees that they are in an ideal place to stop and visit the flowers. When they return to the hive with a large load of pollen or nectar, they recruit other bees to join them on the next trip. In both ways, APIS Bloom promotes better pollination.

When should I apply APIS BLOOM?

APIS BLOOM should be applied when the crop reaches approximately 5% bloom.

What crops can I apply APIS BLOOM to?

APIS BLOOM can be applied to any crop that depends on honey bee pollination for proper fruit set and quality. Some crops, like raspberries or blueberries, are more responsive to increased pollination than others. Please contact an ISCA Representative for more information.

Where should I apply APIS BLOOM on Fruit Trees and Berry Bushes?

APIS BLOOM should be applied as a dollop (See Question 9) on a woody stem in the upper 1/3 third of the plant when applying on tree crops. If the crop is supported by posts or trellises, the dollops should be applied to the posts or trellises.

Where should I apply APIS BLOOM on row crops with plastic or fabric mulching?

APIS BLOOM dollops can be applied to the mulch for row crops like watermelons or strawberries that use plastic or fabric mulch. APIS BLOOM should not be applied directly on the ground because it causes it to rapidly break down.

How Should I apply APIS BLOOM?

APIS BLOOM comes in 10oz (250g) and 26oz (750g) caulking tubes. APIS BLOOM can be applied with standard caulking guns. Pre-calibrated caulking guns are available from ISCA.

What is a “Dollop?”

A dollop is the mass of APIS BLOOM paste that is applied at a single point from the caulking gun. A standard dollop is approximately 0.1 oz (3g).

How many dollops should I apply to each acre?

For optimal field life, we recommend you apply 250 0.1 oz (3 g) dollops per acre. This will be approximately 26 oz (750 g) or the amount in one large tube. Because the volatile pheromone disperses readily, you don’t have to treat every plant.

Do all dollops have to be exactly .1oz (3g)?

No. Perfection is not required. It’s better to have even distribution over the entire acre than it is to have exactly 250 dollops.

How should dollops be shaped?

We recommend that dollops have a conical shape like a Hershey’s Kiss.

Are Honeybees attracted to the dollop or the general area?

Honey bees are not attracted to the dollop itself. The dollops release a cloud of honey bee attractant over the field. When honey bees enter this cloud they stop and start foraging on the flowers. Because of directional information conveyed in the waggle dance by returning bees, new recruits will know where to find the pheromone cloud.

Do I need to apply APIS BLOOM to every plant?

No, APIS BLOOM does not have to be applied to every plant to experience benefits.

Is there a minimum area required for an APIS BLOOM Application?

We recommend applying APIS BLOOM to an area of at least 1 acre.

I got APIS BLOOM on my hands. What should I do?

The attractant ingredients are non-toxic. We recommend that you wash thoroughly with warm soapy water to remove order and residues.

Does APIS BLOOM attract any other types of bees like native bees or leafcutter bees?

APIS BLOOM has not been proven to attract any bee other than Apis mellifera.

Does APIS BLOOM harm Honeybees?

The ingredients in APIS BLOOM are exactly the same in nature as honey bees release in nature. APIS BLOOM has not been shown to harm Honeybees in any way.

Does APIS BLOOM harden like candle wax, or does it stay soft and greasy?

APIS BLOOM will harden slightly over time and will gradually lose its pink color. Pheromone release will continue for 3-4 weeks.

How many hives should I use with APIS BLOOM?

You should continue to use the same amount of hives with APIS BLOOM as you would with your untreated crop.

What results can I expect when applying APIS BLOOM?

Due to increased honeybee activity, you can expect improved seed and fruit set after applying APIS BLOOM which can lead to higher yield.

How do I know if APIS BLOOM is working?

You can compare honey bee activity in treated areas with untreated areas to immediately see the effects of APIS BLOOM. Honey bees will leave their hives earlier and stay out later. You can also measure fruit set after the application has been made.
